This morning we learn about the Pope’s Laudato Si (Praise to you My Lord) 2018. The name comes from the first line of Francis’ Canticle of Creation. It describes how every living person- is connected to the earth and therefore to environmental issues.
We caught the 115 bus to Gariboli Place to have lunch and admire the view.
The Basilica of San Bartolomeo all’Isola is over a thousand years old. It rises in Rome, on the Tiber Island, a place of particular importance for the history of Rome, halfway between Trastevere, a district of the first Christian preaching, and the ancient Jewish quarter. This position in the middle of the Tiber, a key place for crossing the river. It is now dedicated to martyrs and has a Nazi, Communist, Australasian shrine as well as one to all of the other continents. Each contains relics from those countries. The alter has a sarcophagus of Saint Bartholemew, who was an apostle martyred by being skinned alive. Our celebration of mass there was very beautiful. Following mass we walked for one last time through the Jewish quarter of Rome.
