Today we spent the whole day in classes apart from 12:30 pm Mass and lunch in the old Jewish Quarter of Trastevere, a short walk down the steep hill. The cafe is run to employ disabled people who cannot find work elsewhere. The food was beautiful and the staff were excellent.
Classes were about the key documents underpinning the Catholic Church.
After class I wanked to an amazing delapidated villa and park, with amazing statues. The homes surrounding it on the hill cost up to 10 million dollars each and have incredible views over Rome.
I met 8 other colleagues at the Piazza Novana at the conclusion of their walking tour.
The Piazza Novana was used as a stadium for competitive sporting games for the Romans in the 1st Century. the fountains and statues of tritans and a dolphin by Bernini, are stunningly beautiful. The gelati shop nearby claims to have 150 flavours.
The “Scalina Spagna”, or Spanish Steps are an example of Roman Baroque Style. It’s a great place to just sit down and enjoy the atmosphere and views of the Eternal City. There are 138 steps leading to Trinita dei Monti, with its beautiful twin tower church dominating the skyline.
