Florenze

A group of 10 excited travellers woke early and took taxis to Rome Termini station for the 1.5 hour bullet train to Florence.

We started with a tour of St Marc’s and Fra Angelico’s fresco of the Annunciation, the most famous image. We walked to the Duomo and Piazza Vecchio, to see the copy of David, statue of Neptune, mercury, Adan and Eve and Cain and Abel.

Wondering the streets of Fiorenze seemed quite familiar, as I have been there a few times before. Past Il Porchellino, the Ponte Vecchio and Barb’s happy place, a pizza bar which was not open. Fond memories of our last visit came flooding back at every turn.

Of the many highlights was the stop at our local supermarket, drinks at a bar overlooking the Ponte Vecchio and a meeting with Suellen and her family. They accepted an invitation to join us in a picnic at Michaelangelo Place. It was beautiful to eat nibbles, drink wine and sing along to a guitarist, who played Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence.” The crowd was great fun and full of goodwill as we watched the sun go down, highlightig the River Arno and 7 bridges of Florence. Back home via the bullet train and H bus by 12:30 am.
